about
Malakai, the alias and arch nemesis of Finn Whitla, has been bustin’ up clubs around Australia since day one. Though a graduate and figurehead of the Hobart techno scene, Whitla sources inspiration from all over the globe, whether it be from cumbia and world music styles, house, grime, bass culture, moombahton or dancehall.
Built around the myth of an unnamed, mysterious Hobart waiter (whose story is told in English and Italian lyrics), Malakai’s track, Shovel Chin, is brilliant not only in its use of Whitla’s eclectic array of styles and influences, but also in its tempered, dynamic execution.
Coupled with a second original, Get Up, and a diverse set of remixes from friends Mat Cant, 1 Fish Two Fish and Milt Mortez - Malakai’s Shovel Chin EP is a proud addition to Bossman’s modest catalogue.
