Melbourne born, country bred, Benjamin Martin Karikari-Yeboah (aka Kwasi) is an emerging producer whose stylistic beats and lyrical flows are infused with soul and passion. With a Ghanaian father and Australian mother, Kwasi’s heritage and culture are used as inspiration for his unique sound.
Keeping it his tastes eclectic, Kwasi listens to and is inspired by artists such as Dr Dre, J-Dilla, Flying Lotus, Madlib, Bob Marley, Outkast, The Black Keys, Blu, Lauryn Hill, Kanye West, Bob Marley and Aoi. Drawing on that inspiration, Kwasi’s experimental beats aim to take listeners on a journey, while his infectious personality adds a dash of humour to his music and performances.
Described by a blogger as “some slightly psychedelic, twisted, rap fantasy shit, created late at night in his bedroom”, Kwasi’s work offers a window into the unhinged creative drive of a nocturnal artist cut off from distractions and contact - a mood embraced wholeheartedly in his debut instrumental release, Passportal (releases on Bossman Records this February).
Completed over a number of months, Kwasi’s Passportal stands as a ten-track trip through the thoughts and preoccupations of a sleepless creator - dragging the listener into moments of both total chaos and, conversely, a kind of clarity during periods of total minimalism.
